Annabel takes silver in Sheffield

It was a busy weekend for Fife AC, with the club's athletes taking to the roads and track across the UK.

Members were racing in high class fields as showed their ability to compete with top athletes from other clubs.

The club’s stand out performance of the weekend came courtesy of Annabel Simpson, who won the silver medal in the 3000m at the British Universities Indoor Championships in Sheffield in only her first year at the event.

The first year dental student at the University of Glasgow ran an outright personal best of 9.46.99 and was second only to Commonwealth Games 800m finalist Jessica Judd.

It was a magnificent effort from the local racer who’ll look to now build on that effort as the season goes on.

After a string of strong performances over the winter, Steph Pennycook was selected to represent Scotland at the Armagh International Road Races in Northern Ireland.

Steph placed an excellent 14th in a personal best of 9.29.76 in a high quality women’s 3k, which saw an incredible 28 athletes break the 10 minute barrier.

Along with her Scotland team mates Sarah Inglis, Laura Whittle and Beth Potter, Steph also picked up the team gold.

The Scottish Indoor Junior Relay Championships took place before the televised Glasgow International Grand Prix at the Emirates Arena Fife AC’s talented U13 girls’ team placed second in the 4 x 200m behind a strong Edinburgh AC team in an impressive 1.57.95.

Further north, club newcomer Hamish Battle was 4th at the Kinloss to Lossiemouth Half Marathon, running a huge personal best of 1.15.12

Fellow club members also had success of the weekend with Daniel Newman winning 800m MV45 bronze at 800m in 2:17.02 at the Indoor Masters Championships at the Emirates Arena.

Meanwhile, Graham Bennison placed 14th in the Dawesville Parkrun in Western Australia, in 27:18 and a temperature of 32 degrees at 8.00a.m. in the morning.

Up-coming events for Fife AC include various parkruns at Kirkcaldy and St Andrews.

The Cupar 5 is also on the horizon, scheduled to take place on March 5.
