Ben bides his time and strikes late to win Strath' series race

Fife AC hosted two events this week, the first of midweek series races from Strathkinness to Blebocraigs and the popular Norman's Law Hill Race in Luthrie.

At the Strathkinness to Blebocraigs race, Ben Hukins of Leven Las Vegas took the victory by just six seconds from local junior George Rees in second and St Andrews University student Kristof Anheur in third.

Hukins worked his way up on the next steep, slippery and muddy farm track leg until he was fourth.

When the runners reached the next section of tarmac, Ben still played the waiting game before making his move in the last half mile descent across the fields to win comfortably by a clear six seconds.

4 Ryan Lafferty 26.02, 5 Harvey Rankin (Team Elite) 26.54, 6 Mark Harris (Anster Haddies) 27.18, 7 Chris Russell (St Andrews University) 27.39, 8 Halina Rees 27.48,9 Finlay Finlay (Garscube Harriers) 28.12, 10 Alexander Louden 28.16.

The club’s Rees family made up three of the top 10 at the Norman’s Law Hill Race, with brothers Logan and George placing first and second respectively and sister Halina placing fifth and first woman by over three minutes.

Top results were as follows: 1 Logan Rees 30.23, 2 George Rees 32.15, 3 Jonny Knox (Anster Haddies) 34.23, 4 Mike Andrew (Carnethy Hill Runners) 34.48, 5 Halina Rees 34.52, 6 Alexander Louden 35.00, 7 Alistair Cox (Tinto) 35.05, 8 Johnny McBain (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers) 35.11, 9 Billy Gibson (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers) 35.15, 10 Jacob Dodson (Kinross Road Runners) 35.18.

The Emily Hill Race was won by 12-year-old Sarah Coutts of Kinross Road Runners in 7.59 from Blair Scott of Dundee Hawkill Harriers.

Liam Wyse and Hayley Brown were Fife AC’s too make and female finishers in fifth and 11th place respectively.

Hamish Battle (Metro Aberdeen) won the Beveridge Park 5K in 16:14, followed by Ryan Lafferty (Fife AC) and Martin Butcher (Carnegie Harriers).

Sheena Logan (Fife AC) was first woman in 18:09, from Kristin Lownie (Carnegie Harriers) and Alison Sutherland (Falkland Trail Runners). Ben Sandilands (Fife AC) won the junior race, with Valencia Wright (Victoria Park) first female.
