Starting from Ceres and heading out along farm tracks, lanes and through muddy ditches for three miles before climbing the small, but nonetheless daunting hill itself and returning via the same route.

Ben Hukins took care not to over extend himself prior to the Black Rock 5 two nights later, but still manage to tease out a narrow lead and win by three seconds.

At The Black Rock 5 in Kinghorn on Friday evening, 18 LLV helped swell the crowd of 1001 entrants for one of the most novel running events in Fife where runners start off in the streets of Kinghorn before running down to the beach of Pettycur Bay at low tide and out across the mile or so of sand to run around the Black Rock and return before the tide can sweep back in.

The spectacular finish up a steep and increasingly narrow street in Kinghorn is always popular with the cheering spectators although not quite so with the runners who, after five miles across sand and through water are struggling to keep going up to the finish.

It was the event Fiona Russell chose as her very first race ever after starting jogging and joining the LLV group only a month or so before.

She finished this second landmark event well, looking forward to more running events in the future.

At the parkruns LLV were still setting personal bests with six out of the seventeen LLV getting pbs.

They were Peter Rieu-Clarke, Tessa Davies, Robyn Warrender, Karen Capewell, Tam Cullen and Gordon Thompson. Gail Herd took the plunge by doing her first ever parkrun at St Andrews.

On Sunday morning 22 LLV went down to the West Sands at St Andrews to join in a record crowd taking part in the annual Chariots of Fire 5k race held in the style and spirit of the famous film.

Akira O’Connor was first LLV in fifth place. Proceeds are to be donated to Worldwide Cancer Research.
