Kirkcaldy’s Beth Scoon says she is over the moon after being chosen as a member of the GB Women’s ice hockey team which was announced this week.
Beth (18), will form part of the 22-strong team which will compete in the upcoming World Championships in Asiago, Italy in April, against teams from Italy, as well as Australia, Italy, Korea, New Zealand and Poland.
She said: “I am absolutely buzzing! I have great memories from Asiago when I was there for the World Championship qualifiers with the GB under-18s in 2011 and I am hoping to create more great memories this time around.
“Once again I will be celebrating another birthday away with the team. I celebrated my 18th last year with the girls on the way to World Championships in Strasbourg. I can’t wait to do it all again.”
Former Balwearie pupil Beth is now studying Sports and Exercise Science at Edinburgh Napier University. As well as playing for Fife Falcons in the Scottish U20 league, she plays for Kingston Diamonds in the English Women’s Premier League and Edinburgh Eagles in the British Universities League, and was part of the GB University team which competed in the World Student Winter Games in Trento, Italy in December 2013.
Beth is the only Scot in the team, and will be joined by Olivia Mason, sister of Harriet, Fife Flyers’ coach, Danny Stewart’s partner. The team has been chosen after months of intensive training on and off the ice.
“We are desperate to win gold and get promoted back to Division 1,” she said.
