Blues back at it after weekend call-off

There was disappointment in the Kirkcaldy camp last Saturday when the league game at Ardrossan was called off shortly after 9.00 a.m on account of Memorial Field being water logged.

This ground is normally able to withstand most of weather’s vagaries so this was rather surprising news, especially when league games went ahead at many other venues in the west of Scotland.

The SRU have now announced that the game will be played on April 15.

This means the Blues will now conclude their league programme with away games at Kelso, Whitecraigs and now Ardrossan on the first three Saturdays of April, a time when many rugby players are thinking of seven-a-side tournaments.

This Saturday Quintan Sanft’s side travels across the Forth to play their return game against Preston Lodge (kick-off 3pm).

The Midlothian side are having a successful campaign in National 2 and currently stand in fifth place although losing heavily last Saturday to league leaders Cartha Queens Park.

PL won the Beveridge Park encounter by the narrow margin of 14-7 in October, a game which Kirkcaldy should have won.

For the postponed Ardrossan game the Blues included at centre former Scotland Under 19 cap Josh Laird who is dual registered with Heriots and is currently not needed by the Edinburgh club.

He learned his rugby at Kirkcaldy before completing his schooldays at Strathallan. At that time he played for Scotland U16, 18 and 19.

His time at Heriots has been blighted by illness and injury and the Goldenacre side have yet to see the best of him. His return is a welcome boost for the Blues.

Both the Colts and 2nd XV games at Beveridge Park last Saturday were called off because of sodden pitches.

The seconds are due to play Kinross at home this Saturday (3.00 p.m).
