The race is split over two legs with the first runners starting at Port Seton and handing over some 25.5km later at North Berwick where the second leg runners took off on the final 24.5km (15 miles) to Dunbar.

Bob’s team mate Robin Pate ran the first leg making good time through the pack over undulating and varied terrain, including sections of sandy beach and fields as well as narrow pathways and tarmac close to the coastal line and exposed to the headwind.

The duo exchanged a high five with Bob doing the second leg along another stretch of beach before heading further inland, tackling some challenging inclines, awkward footing and rising temperatures on his way to a strong finish with their joint efforts bringing them home in a very credible 14th overall in a field of the 39 competing teams.

LLV runner, Jim Dunstan ran the second leg with team mate daughter Michelle Patrick doing the initial work on leg one, achieving an overall 28th team place.

In true LLV fashion Robin supported Michelle until she got into her stride at the start and as each runner finished they made their way to points on the course to cheer on those still running.

A spokesman for LLV said following the event: “This was a great team effort all round and a tremendous achievement for everyone taking part in both solo and relay events.”

Earlier in the day at the local parkruns there was another flurry of personal bests with Bryan McLaren, Iain Wallace, Becky Oakenfull and John Kay all setting best times.

The club’s Iain Wallace was in action again the next day in Perth, where the Tay Ten was run on fast flat ‘B’ roads and tracks, together with LLV’s Andy Cargill, Matt Holden, Ruth Cruickshank, Josephine Lenachen and Lorna Hughes.
