But for a Levenmouth brother and sister it’s something which clearly just runs in their blood.

Jimmy Salmond, owner of Leven’s Unique Physique, has long featured in these pages for his various accomplishments in the sport throughout the years.

But now he’s set to be joined on the world stage by sister Lynn Halliday after the siblings remarkably both qualifyied for the 19th IBFA World Championships in Rome.

Their dedication is a family affair, with Jimmy’s son Joshua and Lynn’s son and daughter, Jonathan and Danielle, plus husband Oly, also involved in the sport.

Lynn’s rise up the rankings has been nothing short of phenomenal, having only taken up the sport seriously a few years ago.

The owner of Kennoway-based business Beauty and the Beach, Lynn said: “I only started training seriously three and a half years ago.

“And then maybe two and a half years ago I started competing just at local shows.

“After that I really got the bug for it.

“It takes a lot of dedication.

“I train at Unique Physique six days a week with a lot of cardio in the morning before going back in again for more training at night.

“I also have to make sure my diet is right with a lot of protein.”

Lynn will compete in the ‘toned’ class at the world championships while Jimmy is included in the men’s class 4.

Jimmy’s record in the sport is incredible, with his list of achievements including wins at Mr Scotland and Mr Britain as well as top placings down the years at the World Championships in Malta and Mr Universe.

Both secured their invitations for Rome at local qualifiers before winning at the British Championships in England.

“Some people never get invited to take part so it’s fantastic,” said Lynn.

“Jimmy has done the ‘worlds’ before but it’s something completely new for me.

“It’s a really big event and the organisation is growing all the time.”

Jimmy and Lynn will compete on October 22.

The International Bodybuilding and Fitness Association was created some 17 years ago.

The first competitions of the new association have been great successes.

Leven’s Unique Physique muscle and fitness gym has been helping locals keep in shape for 20 years – and a recent £50,000 refurbishment means it’ll keep doing so well into the future.

The recent facelift has meant Jimmy has been able to provide a new ladies only gym, aerobic studio, new weights room plus a cardio suite.
