Step up in class for unbeaten Connor

The Glenrothes Boxing Club middleweight is preparing for a step up in class as he squares up against Jose Manuel Lopez Clavero, who has a good record with nine wins, three losses and one draw.

On the same bill is John McCallum, who will face Hungarian hard man Norbert Szekeres at super-middleweight.

Meanwhile, amateur boxers from the Glenrothes club have been in outstanding form over the past few weeks.

Three fighters travelled to Dungarvan, Ireland to compete in the Celtic Cup returning with Emma McCulloch (48kgs) returning with a silver medal, Effy Kathopouli (57kgs) a gold and David Winarski (75kg) a bronze.

The club also travelled to Liverpool last week to compete in the Chairman’s Cup which featured 47 clubs from England and Wales and Glenrothes representing Scotland.

The club returned with three gold medals and a shield after winning the Champion Club of the Tournament award. Effy defeated previously unbeaten Annel Massey on points, Emma beat Celtic Box Cup champion Nicole Ryan on points, while 16-year-old Bradley Innes in his 17th contest won gold at 66kgs.
