Glenrothes veteran athlete John Thomson ended another successful season on a winning note at the weekend.
In glorious weather Thomson, representing Fife Athletic Club, raced to victory in the M55 category at the British Masters Road Mile Championships in Cardiff.
The road mile races were part of the the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon Festival of Running.
Earlier in the year John won gold medals in the 800 metres amd 1500 metres at both the Scottish and British indoor and outdoor Masters Championships.
He added to that with medals at the European Championships in Izmir in Turkey and the World Masters in Budapest, Hungary.
Further success came with victory in the Markinch Miracle Mile, a special race which was run to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Roger Bannister’s four-minute mile.
He was rewarded for all his efforts when he picked up the sports gong at the annual Local Hero Awards in the town’s Rothes Halls.
Throw in another clutch of wins on the Highland Games circuit and it’s not hard to see why it has been another good year for the local veteran runner.
