Bronze medal success for Fife AC at 10k meet

After a long spell of injury, Logan Rees made a welcome return to racing at a national level with an impressive bronze medal in the senior men’s race.

The local runner has had to endure a frustrating spell on the sidelines but showed no signs of rustiness as he returned with a bang.

In what was his debut 10k, Logan’s excellent time of 30.48 places him first in the Scottish junior men’s rankings and sixth in the Scottish senior men’s rankings.

He sits behind the likes of Olympians Andrew Butchart, Callum Hawkins and Derek Hawkins.

Logan’s younger brother Tristan Rees also made his debut over the distance, coming 26th in 33.03.

Tristan’s time also places him in the top 10 in the Scottish junior 10k rankings as he continues to have an impressive 2016.

Annabel Simpson was the club’s fastest female, placing 13th in 36.46. She was backed up by Katie Jones in 15th in 37.27 and Andrea Burke Rae in 25th in 38.42, with the three women picking up the bronze medal in the women’s team race.

There were a handful of excellent performances from Fife AC talented junior middle distance squad at the end of season midweek Grangemouth Open Graded Meet as well.

In the 1500m, U13 Anna Hedley set a huge new personal best time of 4.57 in what was only her second 1500m of the year.

The time elevates her to second in the Scottish U13 rankings and 12th in the UK U13 rankings.

Just days before her team bronze at the Scottish 10k Championships, Annabel Simpson finished her track season with a personal best of 4.30.74 which takes her to second in the Scottish junior 1500m rankings.

And the records just kept on falling for the Fife AC athletes.

There were also personal bests in the 1500m from U13 Owen Keddie in 4.42, U17 Euan Boyle in 4.01 and Owen Miller in 4.03.

Twin brothers Iain and Gavin McWhinnie narrowly missed their personal bests, running 4.33 and 4.38 respectively.

Fife AC’s Hedley family made an impact at the Great North Run junior races, with all three sisters placing in the top 15 in their respective categories.

Just days after her 1500m personal best, Anna Hedley won the U13 girls race, covering the 4k course in in an impressive 14.47.

Middle sister Isla was sixth in the same race while youngest sister Freya was 13th in the U11 race.

Robert Sparks also ran well to place fourth in the U17 boys’ race.
