Chloe gets ready to tee it off in Peru

The Scots will seek to build on the success achieved by Drumoig’s Connor Syme, following his victory in the Australian Amateur Championship on Sunday.

Chloe, of St Regulus Ladies, will compete with Grantown-on-Spey’s Hannah McCook and men’s duo Barry Hume (Haggs Castle) and Falkirk’s Ryan Campbell for the event from January 21–24.

In total, 30 players from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Canada, Finland, Portugal and, for the first time, New Zealand will take part in the event at Lima Golf with the support of The R&A.

First played in 2006, the South American Amateur Championships are open to men and women and were won last year by US Walker Cup player Scott Harvey and Sofia Garcia from Paraguay, .

“I can’t get wait to get started,” said Campbell, who earned a first Scotland cap in last year’s Men’s Home Internationals and is looking forward to learning from former pro Hume. “It’s really good to get the chance to go away to another country and compare my game to players from other countries. Not many people get that opportunity.

“It will be great to compete against international players and travel with someone like Barry to learn from his experiences. The event is at altitude so the ball is going to be flying and I’ve spoken to someone who has played the course before.”

Campbell, who celebrated his 24th birthday on Saturday, added: “I was over the moon to achieve my goal of being picked for the Home Internationals in 2015. I’m really happy with the way I’ve progressed over the last couple of years and I just want to keep working hard away.”

Duncan Weir, executive director – Working for Golf at The R&A, and Donald Turner, chairman of the golf development committee, will attend the event.

“We have supported the South American Amateur Championships since their inception 10 years ago and have been impressed with their growing stature in the game,” said Weir.

“They provide an excellent early season opportunity for leading men’s and women’s players.”
