Connor helps Scots to win before Team GB pick

Hot on the heels of his exploits for the Scotland team in the European Amateur Championships (report on p62), the on-form amateur has been selected to represent Great Britain & Ireland in the St Andrews Trophy match against the Continent of Europe at Prince’s Golf Club in Kent.

He is one of three Scots that make up part of the nine man team gearing up to face the Europeans down in the South East of England on July 20 and 21.

This all comes after an incredible performance by Connor at the European Amateur Championships in which he secured the winning point to give Scotland their second consecutive European crown.

The St Andrews Trophy is an event heaped in prestige and has been played alternately on British/Irish and mainland European courses since 1956.

Great Britain & Ireland has won on 25 occasions with the Continent of Europe winning five times, including the 2010 and 2012 matches.

The team will be captained by Scotland’s Craig Watson as he bids to repeat Great Britain & Ireland’s performances of two years ago and retain the trophy.

Connor currently lies 31st in the World Amateur Golf rankings but will be buoyant after his recent endeavors and is hopeful that he can help keep the trophy on home shores.
