The Drumoig amateur, ranked inside the world’s top 20, competed in a high class European Tour field at last weekend’s Joburg Open.

He performed incredibly well, missing out on making the cut by just one shot.

Due to adverse weather conditions the tournament was reduced to 54 holes with Darren Fichardt emerging as winner.

After the event, Syme joined his national team mates at Leopard Creek for the 72-hole African Amateur Stroke Play Championship.

The event was being played at the time of writing - but Connor looks set for an exciting end to the competition.

He was holding a two shot lead on Thursday morning with the chasing pack struggling to make a dent in his advantage after scoring four birdies on his first 11 holes to race into the lead.

Full updates on Connor’s progress will appear online at www.fifetoday.co.uk and in this week’s Fife Herald and St Andrews Citizen print titles.
