THE countdown to the new ice hockey season started this week with the release of the official fixture lists.

Fife Flyers will hit the ice on the weekend of August 31 and September 1 for home and away challenge matches against Dundee Stars.

One week later, on Saturday, September 7, the Fife Ice Arena team will begin their Elite League (EIHL) campaign at home to Cardiff Devils.

Flyers will then kick-off their Challenge Cup bid the following night against Edinburgh Capitals at Murrayfield.

The EIHL will once again be split into two conferences, with Flyers competing in the Gardiner Conference alongside Braehead, Dundee, Edinburgh and Hull.

The Erhardt Conference will include Belfast, Nottingham, Coventry, Cardiff and Sheffield.

The final weekend of the regular season will be March 22 and 23, with the play-offs commencing the following weekend.

Flyers have meanwhile confirmed that Todd Dutiaume and Danny Stewart will continue to lead the club next season.

Dutiaume (40) will return as head coach, while Stewart (34) takes on the new title of associate coach.

Both intend to continue playing despite suffering serious injuries last season.
