Steven Meikle won the toss for Falkland and elected to bat, reported David Potter.

Three batsmen, Euan Sloan, Steven Meikle and Geordie Gallagher, reached their 30s against some decent Dunfermline bowling, and Logan Briggs added a useful 20 runs at the end to bring the score to 187 for 7 at the end of their allotted 35 overs.

It turned out to be a very competitive total and the Pars made a decent fist of things in the second half.

Their total owed everything to the century scored by the very experienced Vasu Reddy, who hit four sixes and a plethora of fours in a fine display of attacking batting.

He reached his century with a six but, soon after that, he tried the same again and was caught by Sloan on the boundary.

Dunfermline still had a chance of victory after he had gone but some good catching and, eventually, a run out, finished the game in the last over with Falkland still two runs to the good.

The difference between the two sides lay in the fielding, as Falkland tended to hold their catches whereas Dunfermline spilled one or two.

It was a good day for Falkland, particularly as they had two debutants in Arul Senthil and Mohammed Assad.

This year may have been an unfortunate one for cricket in general and for Falkland’s impressive youngsters in particular, but 2021 looks very bright indeed.

This week, Falkland have a fixture against the 40 Club at Scroggie.

Scoreboard from friendly at Falkland:

Falkland 187 for 7 (E. Sloan 36, St Meikle 36, G. Gallagher 35).

Dunfermline 185 all out (Vasu Reddy 100, E. Sloan 4 for 29).
