Disability golf group ready to start season

The Scottish Disability Golf Partnership (SDGP) is set to tee off its 2017 season at the Silverknowes Golf Club on Wednesday 5 and Thursday April 6, hosted by Edinburgh Leisure.

Over two dozen days of golf are confirmed with more still to be added so there are opportunities for disabled people to take up the game.

The SDGP will also host the Scottish Open in St Andrews this August, where up to 80 disabled players from across the world will compete for the coveted Sidey Cup, at the Fairmont.

Additionally, there are some 12 national Open Championships across Europe and others in the USA and Australasia open to disabled golfers.

Jim Gales, secretary, said: “Every tournament in our diary is fortunate to have a really good venue for the players and great national support for our golfers who wish to compete at constantly higher level, but we are not forgetting our youngsters and beginners to the game.

“We have a new programme of free golf lessons available, where members can access a series of tuition with their local PGA Pro.”
