Dutiaume slams 'selfish' Flyers after Caps comeback

Dutiaume was seething with his team's collapse from 2-0 up, particularly the second period where Flyers lacked the urgency to kill off the game.

Caps struck twice late in the third period to tie the game before sealing their first win in Kirkcaldy since January 2014 with the golden goal in overtime.

"That was a huge disappointment," Dutiaume said.

"We controlled big portions of the game by playing the way we should, but selfishness creeps in and we start throwing pucks up the middle and giving pucks away.

"That's not the hockey club we want to be - and it's how we got ourselves into trouble against Dundee. There was zero commitment to finishing a game off that you have firm control of.

"I can't put up with selfishness. It's got to be carved out of the line-up, and adjusted quickly.

"If guys are going to put themselves ahead of this team getting two points, they don't belong in this team."

Flyers ice a full complement of imports for the first time this season as they welcomed defenceman Phil Paquet into the line-up after injury.

Caps travelled without four import skaters but called on the services of veteran Martin Cingel, who is currently coach of the Murrayfield club's SNL team.

After a low key start to the game, with Shane Owen called on take make a triple save during a Caps powerplay, Flyers opened the scoring on 11.03 as Ric Jackman's wrist shot through traffic flew past the unsighted Travis Fullerton.

It was a goal Flyers needed after a sluggish start and they made it 2-0 with a powerplay goal in the final minute of the period. Shayne Stockton's shot squirmed through the netminder's five-hole leaving David Turon with a tap-in on the goal line.

The opening minutes of the second period looked promising as Flyers started to swarm around the Caps net, but the rather than turning the screw, they took the foot off the gas and allowed the game to drift towards the 40-minute mark.

After a talking too in the interval, Flyers again showed more desire at the start of the third, but the game hinged on a refereeing decision around the 50-minute mark.

Referee Toby Craig appeared to ignore a blatant trip on Justin Fox before calling a penalty against Paquet just seconds later to infuriate home players and fans.

Caps struck on the powerplay - Yevgeni Fyodoro pouncing on 51.60 - and the goal was met by sarcastic applause from the Fife crowd aimed in the direction of the referee.

The visitors - who had recovered from 2-0 down to win twice in the past week - sensed another comeback was on the cards and they levelled on 54.01 as Mason Wilgosh found space at the crease to stab the puck past Owen.

Flyers had to survive another penalty - the third of the night called against a clearly frustrated Matt Sisca - during which Pavel Vorobyov missed an open net, before securing a point and heading into overtime.

However, Caps had the momentum and the winning goal was scored by Jared Staal, who pounced on his own rebound to send the small band of travelling fans into raptures.

Dutiaume is demanding an improved team performance away to Dundee Stars tonight (face-off 6.30 p.m.)

"We've got to look in the mirror and come up with a performance," he said.

"That's three defeats in a row, and that's unacceptable.

"My bosses aren't going to accept that, and neither am I."

Dutiaume also confirmed that tonight's match will be James Isaacs last game for the club following his arrival as short term cover.

"We've been looking for a long time to get a left-handed defenceman into the line-up," he added.

"It's something that's been ongoing from the summer when we recognised that deficiency.

"We need to get somebody solid back there, and somebody who will be a leader."
