Fife athletes coming into form as season ends

As the track season draws to a close, there were a whole host of end of season personal best performances for Fife AC athletes at the Shettleston Harriers Open Graded at Crownpoint in Glasgow.

One of the races of the night came from U17 Ben Sandilands, who won his 800m heat by two seconds in a personal best of 2.01.16.

Over the longer distance of 3000m, Ben’s training partners Owen Miller and Annabel Simpson also ran personal bests of 8.36.90 and 9.30.96 respectively.

For Annabel, her time bettered her previous best by six seconds and places her second on the Scottish U23 rankings.

Also over 3000m, U15 Anna Hedley ran 9.52.27 and Akira O’Connor ran 10.00.39.

Over 300m at the Livingston Open Graded, U17s Aislynn Crichton and Eve Rennie ran personal best of 43.82 and 45.49.

Over 800m, U13s Katie Sandilands and Holly Ovens ran 2.42.94 and a personal best of 2.46.39. At the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run half marathon, Sheena Logan claimed the gold medal in 81.32. Sheena’s time was her second fastest ever and only 20 seconds down on her 2016 PB. Jennifer Cruickshanks, who was also close to her personal best in 86.30 claimed bronze.

Fife AC juniors Robert Sparks, Gregor Malcolm and Iain McWhinnie have been selected to represent Scotland. Robert and Gregor will run at the Junior Home International Hill Races in Glendalough, Ireland while Iain has been selected to run the 1500m steeplechase at the UK School Games in Loughborough.
