Fife Flyers cruise to victory over Storm

Fife Flyers have had no issue scoring goals and building up leads this season - their problem has been closing out games.

That finally changed on home ice as they snuffed out a poor and rather disinterested Manchester Storm 7-0.

Short-benched again and playing just four defenceman – in which Russ Moyer was a rock and Chris Wands deserved every plaudit for a solid game – Flyers constructed a lead that grew and grew with little resistance.

They were as smart and sharp as Storm were lethargic and off the pace.

Once again Ryan Dingle’s performance delivered the forward momentum, and the result was never in doubt at any stage of the evening.

Dingle opened the scoring with just 2:28 on the clock, a split second after a power play ended. Justin Fox dug for the puck, and when it rolled into his path, Dingle saw the net wide open,and couldn’t miss.

Storm had a great chance when Mario Trabucco was left open at the back post, but he shot straight at Owen.

Flyers went 2-0 up with a beauty of a solo effort from Fox on the powerplay as he danced through a couple of static defencemen, drove the net and simply picked his spot. - and it was 3-0 when Dingle netted his second at 13:58.

The middle period was just the same - three more goals, a stack of solid shifts and complete control of this hockey game.

Back on the PP, and a wrist shot from inside the blue line from Phil Paquet delivered Flyers’ fourth goal after 26 minutes, and then Chase Schaber made a great move which saw Stockton’s final touch send the puck into the net.

Moyer seemed to have a goal when he rifled the puck in and out of the net - the light went on but nothing was given.

He was rewarded just minutes later, skating on a slick pass off the boards from Thinel to deliver a great finish for 6-0.

Even before the third period started, mentally Storm were back on the bus.

Flyers were happy to let them shoot at netminder Shane Owen in the third. he was rock solid, and his defencemen, mopped up every loose puck in the zone.

With one second remining, Justin Fox went solo, netted and completed a night of utter misery for the Mancunian club.
