Fife Flyers hunt for D-man as Isaacs flies out

The Canadian has completed his month-long spell covering for the injured Phil Paquet, and Sunday’s defeat to Dundee Stars was his final game.

Isaacs, who previously iced with Dundee and Coventry, made a good impression during his short stay, but confirmed his plans to move on to the ECHL where he has had spells with Idaho Steelheads and Greenville Road Warriors.

He was due to leave Kirkcaldy on Monday to fly back to north America.

While Paquet is back in the line-up, Flyers now need to replace Kyle Follmer – the summer signing who couldn’t get a visa and never made it to these shores.

With that deal dead in the water, Todd Dutiaume, head coach, confirmed the search was on for a new blue liner.

He said: ‘‘There is nothing concrete yet, but we are looking to bring someone in.’’

Flyers face a tricky weekend of league and Challenge Cup on the back of four straight losses, and concerns over a goal drought hitting their leading forwards.

They are at home to Coventry Blaze on Saturday – the first return of former associate coach, Danny Stewart, with his new-look Midlands’ squad – and then cross the Forth to face Edinburgh Capitals in the Challenge Cup on Sunday.

‘‘I get the sense that this team needs an ugly one or two goals to go in to get us racing,’’ he said.

‘‘They’re maybe feeling the pressure just now, so we need them to relax. We will be a better team.’’
