This the first competitive outing for the FiNEST swimmers (from Cupar and Step Rock)

Led by Scotland’s former Commonwealth Games swimming team manager, Gina Logan, they were in experienced hands.

The team bonded superbly, building on each other’s successes, leading to a spirited finale at the end of the meet when three of the swimmers, Lewis Baillie, Cameron McMaster and Adam Young qualified for the knockout format skins events, with cash prizes and 80s rock music adding to the excitement.

Adam’s tally of five silver and three gold medals over the weekend saw him scoop the prize for best boy in his age-group.

Lewis and Cameron each won five medals, Lewis with a gold in the 400 IM and Cameron gold in the 50m breaststroke.

For the girls, Charlotte Williamson (50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke) and Anna Hedley (200m butterfly) also grabbed podium places.

For the younger squad members, PBs and District Regional Programme (DRP) times were the targets.

Scarlett Ferris, Anna Hedley, Charlie Gillespie, Kate Dalglish, Sophie Juskowiak and Hannah Staal all secured at least one DRP time.

Louise Moncrieff, Micah van Blerk, Hamish Noble and Isla Hedley all achieved several big PBs over the weekend.

Louise’s 50m freestyle was a particularly impressive display of racing tenacity and Hamish’s backstroke has improved immensely since he last raced.

Micah’s 100m freestyle was arguably his best swim whilst Isla’s courageous 19 second PB in her first race, the 100m butterfly, set the tone for the weekend.

Final success went to Cameron’s dad, Ali McMaster, who passed his Judge 1 assessment – a vital addition to the FiNEST team.
