Fife Flyers have confirmed the return of fans’ favourite Matt Nickerson for the 2014-15 ice hockey season.
The big defenceman from Old Lyme, Connecticut, USA, made a huge impact across the league during his debut - and he is delighted to be back for the September face-off.
With 301 PIMs last season, Nickerson was one of the toughest players in the Gardiner Conference and across the EIHL, creating a buzz on the ice.
Off the ice he was a huge hit with fans and a big part of the club’s ‘Flyers In The Community’ programme.
Confirming his return, Nickerson said: ‘‘I am super excited to be back with Flyers. I really enjoyed my time with the club last season. It will be nice to see so many familiar faces in the dressing room.’’
Associate Coach Danny Stewart added “This was a no brainer for us. Matt gives us a presence on the ice that is irreplaceable. He can play in all situations and is solid for us defensively.
“We will have a lot of skill up front and he helps with providing those guys with some added space. He is a great teammate and a big character in our dressing room.
‘‘We are excited to have him back and he will play a big part in our goals for the upcoming season!”
