A tough tie was expected when AM travelled west to face last season’s Fife Cup finalists and that is exactly what lay in store.

From the first whistle, Lumphinnans poured men forward and particularly looked to build attacks up the left hand side. It was from there that AM were required to defend a flurry of early crosses.

AM were defending key areas well and causing panic in the Lumphinnans defence with swift counter attacks, which saw Lawson blaze over twice and Mutch force a low block from the home GK.

The game continued to bounce from end to end and Appere was twisting and turning his opponents but couldn’t quite pick the decisive final ball.

Pennington tested the home GK from range but the half ended goalless.

The second period was only minutes old when AM took the lead.

Lawson picked the ball up inside his own half and set off on a powerful run.

He raced beyond the Lumphinnans midfield and between two defenders before a powerful shot was parried up into the air and landed at the back post for Appere to turn home.

It was soon 2-0 when a piece of skill by Appere on the byeline left the Lumphinnans defender confused and the young striker picked out his fellow youth team graduate for a simple finish.

Pennington missed a late penalty for AM.
