The visitors were looking to get the ball into the striker’s feet to allow runners to break from midfield, so the AM back four had to remain vigilant and stayed equal to the task in the opening 20 minutes with Curnyn demonstrating good awareness to cover on a couple of occasions.

Rovers seemed happy to allow Lawson a one on one scenario on the halfway line and on two occasions the AM hitman burst clear but was foiled a by an excellent recovery tackle and a shot over the crossbar.

Callum Houston was next to show for AM with a lovely run past two defenders but he opted not to take the shot on after cutting inside and the chance was lost.

The game continued to bounce from end to end with some robust challenges and a frantic nature with no more clear sights of goal before half time.

AM came out for the second period on the offensive and there was an early chance for Lawson after good interplay through midfield allowed a shooting chance that was crowded out.

The game burst into life 10 minutes later when the referee decided that a crude lunge from behind on Davidson would reduce the visitors to 10 men with a straight red card.

This would present AM with a great chance to dictate play on the big park and two great opportunities would soon arrive.

Firstly, a beauty of a volley from Watt was tipped out of the top corner and secondly, AM would take the lead through Lawson.

The striker blocked an attempted clearance and as the ball fell kindly to another Rovers defender, Lawson blocked the clearance for a second time with the ball breaking kindly and then being blasted low beyond the visiting keeper.

The game then took another twist when K Pratt was shown a second yellow card for clipping an opponent in the middle of the park, levelling the teams with 10 men each.

To be fair to both teams, there was a great effort put in over the remaining 25 minutes to carve out clear chances but Rovers blasted a free kick over and Brough sliced wide for AM after a clever exchange.

A resilient performance from such a young AM team meant the three points remained in Cupar at full time.
