AM Soccer Club faced Fossoway in the Tom McIntyre Cup.
In the opening exchanges, Fossoway were on the front foot and AM were forced to defend a series of crosses and shots from range.
AM made an adjustment to the shape of the team and this allowed them to settle and retain possession better.
Sean Grant burst clear on 25 mins and was hauled down by what appeared to be the last man but the resulting free kick by Lawson was held by the visiting ‘keeper.
AM would grab the lead on 36 minutes when the ball was worked across the pitch to G Reilly, who cut into the box and fired a beauty across the goalkeeper and into far top corner.
Fossoway were dealt a blow when a collision led to their GK being replaced and a further injury meant they had to dip into their subs.
AM tried to turn the screw and moments before half time Lawson dinked over the full back and burst clear before squaring for Sean Grant to arrive at the back post and double the lead.
It was clear that Fossoway would rally and again they started the half positively but Watt in particular was defending superbly.
AM were breaking clear as Fossoway committed men into attack but whenever the decisive moment arrived, the final ball was short on quality. Fossoway passed up a couple of headed chances and a sliced shot but as the 90th minute approached, they pulled a goal back.
A free kick 40 yards out was sent wide and when the cross came in, a slack defensive header allowed a shot that deflected fortuitously into the path of a Fossoway attacker, who found the net.
Both teams enjoyed strong spells in this encounter but AM held out.
