AM Soccer delight as Dundee United starlets prove just champion

Archie Meekison and Louis Appéré were both part of the Dundee United side which clinched the Scottish Championship and won promotion to the Premier.

For Meekison, it was a double celebrtaion.

The young midfielder spent part of last season on loan from United to Cove Rangers, who were promoted as League Two winners following the season’s early end.

Appéré, from Dunshalt, was very much part of Robbie Neilson’s first team squad and his impressive performances in attack saw him rewarded with a call-up to the Scotland under-21s, again before the campaign had to be ended because of coronavirus.

Their former coaches at AM Soccer have watched on with pride at how the two have developed this year.

Daniel Mason, AM Soccer club co-ordinator, says both Louis and Archie are benefiting from both their own hard work and the quality of coaching available at the Cupar club.

He said: “Archie and Louis both began with AM Soccer from a young age, participating in a range of community sessions, before showing a keen interest in team football.

“It was from then on the pair joined the AM Soccer Academy and were coached by Austin MacPhee, who is the founder of AM Soccer and current Northern Ireland assistant coach, where they learned their trade through the clubs unique ‘player development programme’ and ‘curriculum of developmental excellence’.

“The same curriculum that the club delivers to over 400 players from all around Fife on a weekly basis.”

In May 2016, Louis made headlines in the Fife Herald when he underwent a three-day trial in Italy with giants AS Roma.

Then Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon was keen to add the talented forward to his squad and brought the then 17- year-old to Tannadice in August 2016.

Archie is a Scotland schoolboy representative and will be aiming to muscle his way into Neilson’s Premiership side when the season kicks off.

Daniel added: “Both players are a credit to the club and are fantastic role models for all of the kids who look up to them. Everyone at AM Soccer wishes them continued success on their exemplary journeys so far.”
