It was clear that both teams would play the game with the ball on the floor and Kirkcaldy were in behind the AM full backs a couple of times as they showed their early attacking intent.

The first goal was scored by Kirkcaldy when the AM backline were not quite on the same pags, stepping out and a free header was buried for 1-0. The response was positive and AM moved the ball quickly from one side of the pitch to the other and released Macaulay, who delivered a teasing low cross, which nobody could turn home.

AM survived a scare when Pratt’s clearance struck Porteus and spun into the path of the striker but Sharp timed the interception well.

Kirkcaldy doubled their lead when another swift counter attack released their forward on the right flank.

He stood he centre back up before touching inside and curling into the far away corner.

AM pulled themselves back into the game with a terrific volley from Callum Houston making the score 2-1.

AM were dealt a late blow when Lawson was harshly sent off.
