Baikie stepped down as first team boss in October last year paving the way for current player/manager John Ovenstone to step into the role.

At the time, he said he was leaving a club “close to his heart” - but the pull of the Canniepairt was clearly too much to resist for long.

At the club’s AGM on Friday night, Baikie, who has managed Tayport three times, winning close to 30 cups and titles, including two Scottish Cups, was voted in as the new chairman.

It was part of a general shuffle at the club which was relegated back to the Premier Division from the Super League last season.

John Morris will take over role as secretary and John Aitken as treasurer.

A spokesman for the club said: “A huge appreciation has to be given to retiring long serving chairman Alistair Oswald, vice chairman Kenny Smith and secretary/treasurer Abby Oswald for their stalwart and committed dedication to Tayport Football Club for over 40 years.”

Tayport’s pre-season campaign begins on July 16 when they travel to Brechin Vics.

Further fixtures have been arranged by Ovenstone who’ll attempt to guide his side back to the Super League at the first time of asking.

Lochee United, Jeanfield Swifts and Glenafton will all visit the Canniepairt.
