The former Dundee gaffer was appointed the new number 1 in Methil by the board of directors on Monday evening. The appointment came following Gary Naysmith's recent departure to Queen of the South. Club chairman Jim Stevenson told the East Fife Mail that Smith had come highly recommend from several within the game, and now the new man in charge is ready to repay the faith shown in him my the club's board. Smith told the Mail: "This job is going to be a challenge for me and I'm the sort of person who likes challenges. There's a really good set up here and I know from speaking to the chairman that the club is going in the right direction. Gary did a fantastic job last season in getting them promoted. They've hit a wee sticky patch recently but are coming through it and hopefully I can move them on again." Smith takes charge for the first time this weekend at Bayview as East Fife host Peterhead. A full interview with the new boss will be in this week's East Fife Mail.
