The defender has missed the last two league games and was a doubt for last Saturday’s postponed match with Ayr United after suffering an injury during the 3-1 win over Dundee at the end of January.

But the 29-year-old says he’s now fighting fit and ready to reclaim his place in the starting XI.

“I'm fine now,” he says, “I've been back in training since last Tuesday. We've been training at the Oriam in Edinburgh because of the snow.

“It was a tweak of my groin in the first half against Dundee, then my hamstring went in the second.

“I had played every minute of every game except Cowdenbeath in the Betfred Cup so I think it was just due to a build up of all of the games we'd had, but I'm feeling fine now.

“I feel really good.”

Benedictus says it was frustrating to miss out but was delighted with the way his team mates played in the 1-0 win at Morton.

“It was disappointing to miss the last two but obviously the boys bounced back away to Morton.

"I've been watching the games on the PPV TV and it was a good battling performance from the boys.

“I thought they showed a different side to our game. It's not easy going to places like Morton. They're difficult games and sometimes you need to find a different way to play and I think they showed that.

“It showed we can do both sides of the game.

“When we've had a bad result like we did against Dunfermline we've bounced back, we've done that all season.

“It was a good performance all round.”

The skipper says he now expects a similarly difficult tie away to Arbroath this weekend – a team who are unbeaten in their last six matches.

“They've got a good squad up there and obviously Dick Campbell has been in the game for a long time and is a really good manager.

“They've had a lot of good results recently so we know how hard it will be going there, but we'll look at ourselves as well.

"We're sitting in second spot just now so I think we should give ourselves a lot of credit.

“It should be a good game for both sides.”
