Dundonald Bluebell boss Stevie Kay is hoping to put one over his former club tonight when he leads the Cardenden side into their second Super League match of the season.

Kay, who was assistant manager to Tam Courts at Kelty Hearts when they won the Super League in 2014-15, returns to Central Park as the recently appointed boss of newly-promoted Bluebell.

And after opening their debut Super League campaign with a 1-0 home win over Camelon on Saturday, Kay is hopeful that Dundonald can spring a surprise against the highly-fancied hosts.

“Kelty are probably joint league favourites,” Kay told the Press. “I was there for a year and a half helping the manager so I know them well.

“They are a big, powerful side and we’ll probably concede a bit of possesison but we’re going there to make a good account of ourselves and do our best to pick up points.

“Coming up from the lower division, the lads need to realise that sometimes a point away from home in the Super League is a very good point.

“We’ll set out to get three, but if we need to settle for one, we will. We’re certainly not looking to get beat.”

Kay was delighted with the Dundonald display on Saturday as Scott Lawrie’s second half header sealed a winning start at home to Camelon.

“Any clean sheet is welcome and with the sentimental attachment of it being Bluebell’s first game in the Super League it was good to get three points,” he said.

“I’ve been banging into them that the margins are so tight in this league and that we need to be ruthless, and the first clear cut chance we got, we took, so they’re taking things on board.

“I can imagine it was a horrible game to play in with the nervousness but, in spells, some of the stuff we played was really good.

“There are definitely encouraging signs and hopefully we can only get stronger and consolidate in this league.”

Kick-off at Central Park tonight is 7.00 p.m.
