Tayport will be looking to build on last weekend's home win against Armadale when they make the short trip over the Tay Bridge to meet Downfield in another East Premier League fixture.

The match between the old rivals has been postponed a couple of times, so it is hoped that favourable weather conditions will allow the match to go ahead tomorrow afternoon.

The Spiders gained promotion to the second tier last season and have settled into the division.

They currently sit four points behind ‘Port and have a game in hand, so will fancy their chances of closing that gap.

Downfield’ recent form has been patchy though, so John Ovenstone is confident his side can gain victory, if they play to their potential.

“I was really pleased with the win against Armadale,” said the gaffer.

“It was always going to be a bit of a battle and we knew Armadale would set up to keep things tight and frustrate us.

“It was tough to break them down in difficult conditions, but we won our individual battles and the quality came through.”

The boss had special praise for his midfielders.

“Daniel Sanchez set the tone with his drive, desire and energy,” said the manager.

“Marc Ogg was outstanding as well and they work well with Jamie Mackie and Sergio Alvarez.

“It was also good to see Gary Sutherland get his goal on his first game back at the club.”

Ovenstone still wants Tayport to become more clinical and he and the coaching team will have been working hard with the players at training during the week, readying them for the challenge awaiting them at Downfield Park.

The boss added: “We still need to take more of our chances but, all in all, it was a good day’s work.

“Now we’ll try to put a run together and start climbing closer to the promotion spots,” Kick off at the weekend is 2.30pm.

Tayport FC has commissioned a limited edition malt whisky as part of the club’s 70th anniversary celebrations. The memento is available for £30. Speak to any committee member for details.
