At the third time of asking this cup tie beat the weather at Duffus Park.

AM dominated possession in the early stages of the half and they took the lead through Ross Grant’s low shot.

Rovers began to weather the storm slightly but a couple of forays into their final third offered no return.

AMsoccer’s lead was doubled by Pennington, who was becoming a thorn in the visitors side and it would soon be three when McLuckie converted after a corner kick.

The visitors picked a hole in the AM rear-guard when a long throw in was well attacked and a header looped over Pratt in the AM goal to make things interesting.

That goal restored the tempo to AMsoccer’s play and a very swift counter attack was swept home by Mikey Reilly for 4-1.

The home team were keen to start the second half at a high tempo and the fifth goal duly arrived when Sharp latched onto a short Rovers’ pass and fired home from range.

AM began to ring the changes and recently graduated youth player Mutch entered the fray to significant effect.

The youngster went on to rattle home a 20 minute hat-trick and link nicely with Gary Reilly, Pennington and Appere in attack.

Kirkcaldy were not quite finished and their centre stole possession on the halfway line and fed his centre forward, who spotted Pratt a long way from home and applied a clever finish from quite a distance.

The game was wide open and some further careless defending offered Rovers a third goal, bundled home after a couple of chances to clear the danger.

Pennington would sign off on a polished performance by bagging his own hat-trick with a couple of tidy finishes to complete an unusual score-line.

Plenty to keep the spectators interested and some impressive passages of play for AMsoccer.

All attention turns to Saturday’s Fife Cup tie at home to current Kingdom League champions Greig Park Rangers.

Kick-off is 2pm at Duffus Park.
