Canniepairt men look set for Super League drop

John Ovenstone’s side, who sit bottom of the table, require a remarkable stroke of luck with results elsewhere if they’re to finish in the play off zone.

“All we can do is go to Camelon on Saturday, give it our all, try to post a win and see where that leaves us,” said player-boss Ovenstone.

Losing to Kelty Hearts last weekend was a bitter blow to the club’s survival hopes, leaving Ovenstone very disappointed.

“It was the same old story,” he said.

“I can’t fault the players for effort, as we were down to the bare bones, due to injuries and suspensions.

“But we gave good players good chances and they punished us.

“Kelty are a top team and we gave them time on the ball and they were able to make their runs and find space.”

Local youngster Struan Christie performed well in his first start for the club, having made his debut off the bench in the previous match.

“Special mention for Struan,” said Ovenstone.

“He’s only fifteen, but showed tremendous strength and ability. He listens to coaching staff and has a great future in the game.”

Another youngster to feature against Kelty was trialist Grant Paterson, who came on as a substitute. Kick off at Carmuirs Park is 2.30pm.
