Case for the defence as Raith Rovers head to Arbroath

Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn says breaching Arbroath’s defence will be a tough task this weekend.

The Red Lichties’ settled back line has conceded very few goals at Gayfield this season and that’s been noted by the Rovers boss ahead of his team’s visit there on Saturday.

McGlynn said: “The goalkeeper and the defence rarely change, and that's been the same for the last two or three years. That consistency in selection helps. Nine weeks out of ten, they know what their defence is going to be.

“Jason Thomson and the guys all know what they're doing. They're a good unit that plays together all the time, so they don't concede many goals.”

Second-paced Raith travel to play a side unbeaten in their last six Championship games since the turn of the year, and the Stark’s Park boss says his side will need to be at their best to match Dick Campbell’s men.

“Everyone knows that Arbroath away is a very tough game. The weather forecast is a lot milder than it was last week. That's good, but you can go up there any time of year and there can be a gale-force wind, which does have an influence on the game.

“We have to prepare for all conditions and it would be a really good game to win obviously.

"We respect Arbroath and the form that they're in and we will have to be at our best.

“I was pleased at Morton that we battled and we will need to battle in this particular game, that's for sure.

“The run they’re on will give them confidence.

“We need to be ready and prepared for it.”
