When Barry Smith's name popped up on the East Fife board's radar, those at the helm of the club went out and snared their man.

Chairman Jim Stevenson said there was absolutely no hesitation from the Fifers to bring Smith into the club.

The former Dundee and Alloa manager comes with a terrific pedigree in the game and had been highly recommended to Mr Stevenson and the directors.

The Fife chairman said: “Looking at the applications, the committee decided that, rather than bring everybody in, we would go to who we thought would be the right person for the job.

“There were other people within the game who had recommended Barry as well so we took that advice, interviewed him and decided he would be our man.

“We’ve brought him here for obvious reasons.

“His track record with Dundee, Alloa and Aldershot shows that he knows how to run a football club.

“We decided that, at this time, we want someone with that experience.

“He knows the game, is a gentleman and is an easy man to work with. That suits our philosophy.”
