Confidence boosting win for the Hibs ahead of season’s start

Thornton Hibs completed their build up to the new season with a 4-3 against Tranent Juniors on Saturday.

A goal conceded in the 15th minute appeared to stir up the hornets’ nest because by the 38th minute Thornton led 4-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Garry Thomson snr and a solitary strike from Daniel McNab.

With seven minutes remaining the home side had reduced the deficit to one goal but Craig Gilbert’s side held out to claim the victory.

On the previous Tuesday night, Thornton travelled to take on Camelon Juniors.

Elliot Ford had the Hibs one up after only 25 seconds with Darren Ormiston making it 0-2 just before half-time. Garry Thomson snr netted the third five minutes after the break with Fergus Mackie scoring the fourth on the hour mark.

Thomson scored again before Camelon pulled one back only for Thomson to re-establish the Hibs’ five goal advantage as he completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute. Two late strikes for the home side gave a final score of 6-3 in favour of the men from Memorial Park.
