Craig had no hesitation in becoming a Saint

The former Dundonald Bluebell boss was appointed the club’s new manager before the recent derby with Tayport as part of a shuffle which saw previous gaffer Ian Barrett move into a co-chairman role.

The East Premier League is a division Morrison knows well, having guided Bluebell to promotion last season and into the Super League.

Saints currently sit some way off the promotion pace, but it’s a challenge the new boss is relishing at a club he reckons is underachiving.

Morrison said: “St Andrews are a massive club and should not be in this division.

“After meeting the chairman, coming in as manager was a no-brainer.”

Within days of taking over at Barnetts Park, Morrison was swift to surround himself with the players he knows have the quality to help Saints make a surge towards promotion.

In a unique swap deal, Craig Wedderburn and Barry Sibanda were traded with Dundonald for the quartet of Ben Anthony, Scott Orrock, Scott Main and goalkeeper Rhory Mooney.

Morrison reckons it was a good piece of business.

He said: “I spoke with Ian Barrett and Lee Duffy (Saints assistant) about what impact it would have on us.

“After that I knew I wanted four high end players from Dundonald in return for the two we were losing and managed to bring in players who did really well for me last season.

“We got a goalkeeper, central defender, central midfielder and a striker so that’s a whole spine of a team.

“I’ve only been at the club a couple of weeks and can see we have a lot of good, young players,but I just wanted to add a bit more experience which should help us become a lot more consistent.

“The reality of the situation is we need that consistency to get us back up the league.”

Saints go into this weekend’s encounter with Dalkeith Thistle on the back of a confidence boosting 3-0 win in a friendly against Super League leaders Kelty Hearts.

Morrison said the result shows the potential at the club.

“Kelty Hearts had a strong team out but we beat them pretty convincingly,” said the boss.

“They had a lot of possession but we stuck to a game plan.

“It was only a friendly, but there are a lot of positive we can take from the game.

“Dalkeith are a side I experienced last season and are a good team. They beat Kennoway 2-0 on Saturday so it’ll be a tough one.”
