Cup tie goes to a replay after thriller

Cupar Hearts were back in action after the cold weather had twice called off their Fife Cup fixture in recent weeks.

And so, it was Cup action at the Duffus Park but the matter of Scottish Cup where the visitors were Glasgow University.

Cupar got off to the worst possible start with only four minutes on the clock when they found themselves trailing when David Walls connected with a cross to open the scoring.

Donald Thomson fired in from close range giving Glasgow a 2-0 lead heading into half time.

Thomson then had a chance to make it 3-0 from the spot but was was equally matched by Ian Rann.

This ignited a fire in Hearts who burst into life and grabbed two goals in two minutes.

A Kieran McGuire free kick found Aaron Leadbetter who headed home then a great goal by Scott McKay saw him weave his way into the box to finish.

Player- manager Lee Sibanda entered the fray and went straight into the action by winning a penalty and converting.

Two minutes later a reckless challenge by ‘keeper Rann saw the referee point to the spot for the third time.

Ian Rann saved but the loose ball was fired in Calum Davidson.

A dangerous free kick on the edge of the box had Cupar holding their breath and hearts sank when Andrew Hume powered in the kick.

There was to be more drama, though, with Scott McInroy bundling home a late equaliser.

The sides will lock horns once again on Saturday.
