St Andrews United made the short trip to Cupar without Dylan Honeyman, Douglas Crowe and Graeme Hart - but the home team fielded a strong eleven that proved to be capable of recording a comfortable victory.

Indeed, the Cupar Hearts players looked superior in all areas of the park and one of the most impressive performers was former Saint Barry Sibanda who capped a fine display by netting a double.

Aaron Anderson put the hosts ahead as the visitors claimed in vain for a hand-ball before Sibanda converted a cross from the right on the half-hour mark.

Sibanda made the score 3-0 when he nodded home another great cross at the back post as United’s defenders struggled all evening.

The boys in black were relieved to hear the referee’s whistle blow for the interval but any hopes of staging a second half comeback were quickly extinguished when Connor Shaw conceded a penalty just after the break.

Scott McBride calmly converted the spot-kick to make the score 4-0 and he went on to score the best goal of the game moments later by lashing the ball past Shaw following good build-up play.

Kyle Wilson fired St Andrews United’s first real chance of the encounter over the bar in the before Ryan McInnes forced one save from the home goalie.

The men in maroon continued to attack their opponents with drive and determination and Richie Lawson was able to record goal number six.

The final goal of the contest went to former St Andrews United under 19s player Cammy Greenhill when his deflected shot beat a despairing Shaw.

The big goalie had made some terrific saves to keep the score in single figures.

The last action of the match resulted in United defender Willie Campbell receiving a forearm in the face from a wild challenge but the referee managed to keep his cards in his pocket.
