Cut out the silly goals and we’ll be on the up, says East Fife boss

Finding a level of consistency and cutting out “silly goals” are both key to East Fife climbing League One, according to boss Darren Young.

The Fife gaffer was frustrated at the weekend to see his side go down 2-1 at Peterhead and be leapfrogged in the process by the Blue Toon.

But, given the cut-throat nature of League One, they go into Saturday’s home game against Forfar only six points from the play-off zone and with a home game against Clyde in hand.

A couple of back to back wins will see East Fife surge up the table, and that’s exactly what the Fife manager wants from his side.

“From our point of view we need to try and go on a wee run and stop losing silly goals,” said Young

“We can’t keep defending like we did on Saturday because we’re putting ourselves under pressure.

“But we’re still positive.

“We go into every game with a game plan on how we can break teams down.

“The goal we scored against Peterhead was exactly what we had spoken about and showed the players on video.

“The goal we lost from Scott Brown was also exactly what we had showed them and talked about getting a block in.

“From our point of view we’re explaining these things to the players and hoping they take it on board.

“If they don’t someone else will come in and take their place.” Forfar arrive at Bayview on Saturday propping up the league, and Young wants to heap more misery onto them.

“We have two games left to play in the quarter and we’re looking for the six points,” he said.
