Danny still good enough to be playing in top flight

East Fife manager Darren Young says new signing Danny Swanson is still good enough to be playing in the top flight of Scottish football.

The Bayview boss has also described the 33-year old winger as ‘a major coup’ and ‘the biggest name player he has signed’ for the Fifers.

Speaking to the East Fife Mail this week, Young said: “Danny could have stayed full time if he wanted and certainly had offers from elsewhere.

“We put our best bid in to try and get him here and he has opted to join us.

“For him, he lives nearby which was convenient but he also saw the style of play we have here and how he would fit into the side so that was a big factor as well.

“He’s a very, very talented and creative player, he offers us more competition in the wide areas of the pitch and the forwards will be delighted to have a player with his creativity in the team.

“He’s probably the biggest name I’ve signed for East Fife, he was playing at highest level last season and is still good enough to do that. It’s a massive coup for us to get a player like him.”

Swanson was with St Johnstone last season and prior to that has represented the likes of Hibs, Hearts and Dundee United as well as Peterborough United and Coventry City south of the border.

Now, with Swanson in on a two year deal, Young is turning his attentions to getting more deals across the line in this transfer window.

“We are looking to see what is out there,” said Young.

“There are a couple players available on loan and some floating about without clubs but everybody is going for the same guys so it’s a tough market.

“Hopefully we will hear more about what is happening next couple of weeks.”
