Delight just weeks after Hampden defeat

It's certainly been a season to remember for Leven United - but the side isn't quite ready to give up that winning feeling just yet.

The local amateur club is developing a reputation as one of the best at that level in Scotland.

Just a couple of weeks ago they came agonisingly close to lifting the Scottish Amateur Cup at Hampden Park.

Colville Park came out on top 2-1 that day, but at the weekend Leven had cause for celebration once again.

On Saturday a double from Willie Herd and a Ryan Thomson strike helped the side to a 3-2 win over Lumphinnans.

The three points ensured Leven were crowned Kingdom Caledonian League winners.

But there will be no stepping off the gas, with plenty more silverware still up for grabs before the season ends.

Boss Dougie Herd said: “We are so very proud to win the league title.

“The boys have done remarkably well particularly after the disappointments of Hampden.

“We still have the four cup finals for all the domestic cups in our league and we will give them our best shot.

“It’s been a brilliant season for our club and its down to the hard work from everyone involved .”

On Friday night Leven again face Lumphinnans when they meet in the final of the M+H Engineering Cup.

They then challenge Bowhill Rovers in the Fence N’ Deck Cup final before meeting the same club again in the final of the Scottish Brewers Cup.

The season will finally end when they play Kinross in the Kingdom Challenge Cup final on June 30.
