Disappointment shows us how far we've come

Tayport are battling bravely against the drop from the Super league, and Ovenstone reckons there were signs in the 2-1 loss that ‘Port are up for the scrap.

With hosts Bonnyrigg chasing the league title, the gaffer reckons his side should be proud of their showing.

He said: “We’re gutted we didn’t take at least a point and that’s a great way to be after playing away against the team that looks like going on to win the Super League championship.

“A few months ago, going 2-0 down that early against a team like Bonnyrigg would probably have seen us going on to lose by a good few more.

“Although big Gav kept us in the game with a string of good saves, and that’s what he’s there for at the end of the day, it perhaps shows how far we’ve come.”

Tayport have been on a good run of late and will be looking to pick that form back up again this weekend when they travel to Musselburgh.

The following Wednesday, ‘Port travel to local rivals St Andrews.

Ovenstone said: “The next week is going to be a big week and six points from Musselburgh on Saturday and then United in our first midweek game on Tuesday) is what we need.

“Over the last 4-5 weeks we have taken massive strides.”
