Dundonald welcomed Dunbar to a heavy Moorside Park for this East of Scotland Premier League match.

Manager Kevin Fotheringham rested a few players after his team’s fine performance in midweek against Bonnyrigg Rose where they eventually lost after extra time.

Dundonald got off to the worst possible start in this match when they allowed Dunbar a free header from a corner, conceded after McKenzie lost the ball on the edge of his own box.

After losing the goal Dundonald settled down and started to put Dunbar under pressure.

McKenzie had a good chance to equalise but pulled his shot wide.

A good run by left back Aiden Hendry forced the Dunbar keeper to make a brave save. He could not hold onto the ball and it fell to Strang but his goal bound shot was cleared off the line.

The home side continued to take the game to Dunbar but went in at the break one down.

The second half continued in the same fashion as Dunbar kept ten men behind the ball with Dundonald trying to break them down.

McKenzie saw another shot go wide and when substitute Smith got his header on target the Dunbar keeper pulled off a superb save.

This was how the second half played out - Dundonald having all the ball but failing to create the all-important goal scoring chance.

With three minutes left Dunbar produced the classic sucker punch when they broke forward and scored their second.

The heavy pitch made good football almost impossible but Dundonald will be disappointed that they failed to make any real goal-scoring chances in a game that they had about 90 per cent possession.

Next up for Bluebell is a League Cup second round fixture tomorrow (Tuesday) night against Lothian Thistle HV under the floodlights at Moorside Park.

Kick-off 7.30 p.m.
