Kevin Smith was delighted to get in on the goalscoring act at the weekend to round off an excellent 90 minutes for both him and the side.

Smith opened the scoring against league leaders Falkirk at Bayview, setting the home side on their way to a much deserved three points.

The visitors pulled level before club captain Smith’s delivery deep into the second half was finished off by Jack Hamilton to put East Fife back in front.

It was the on-loan forward’s fourth goal in as many games, and Smith said it was crucial those around him all played their part.

He said: “The gaffer has said that Jack Hamilton has been the one scoring most of the goals so we need to try and chip in a wee bit more.

“We managed to do that against Falkirk through myself and Scott Agnew who had a few chances, plus Jack had another couple.

“We created a lot and limited Falkirk’s opportunities so it’s all positive at the minute.”

The Methil men aim to take that momentum into this weekend’s Scottish Cup tie with Tranent Juniors, with Smith taking nothing for granted.

“Last season we played BSC Glasgow and they came to Bayview and won the tie,” he said.

“I don’t think we took them lightly but, if we did, that’s a reminder that if you’re not on top of your game then you’ll get put out of the cup.

“It’s Tranent’s cup final so we’ll need to do our homework on them and won’t take them lightly, just like we did with Falkirk. I’m sure we’ll set up the right way and our attitude will be correct on the day as well to make sure we get through to the next round of the Scottish Cup.”
