East Fife have Montrose in their sights

With eight games to go until the end of the season, the League One play-off race looks set to go down to the wire.

East Fife are still very much in that mix, despite Saturday’s loss to Airdrie, and face another massive game this weekend against Montrose as each 90 minutes becomes crucial.

Raith and Falkirk have a bit of breathing space from the others in behind, but there’s still time for a few more twists to come.

Montrose took the chance to go above East Fife last night (Tuesday) when they beat Stranraer.

Stewart Petrie’s side now visit Bayview on Saturday and, should the Fifers get their noses back in front again come 4:45pm, the mission for the rest of the season becomes simple according to boss Darren Young.

“If we can then pick up the same or more points than Montrose every week then we’ll finish above them,” said the manager.

“There are eight games to go and still a lot to play for.

“If we look back over our last five games, taking away the last 18 minutes at Falkirk, we’ve been playing really well - but even then, at Falkirk we were still going for it late on.

“Against Airdrie on Saturday we were comfortable but it’s our own fault we didn’t take anything from the game because we didn’t make the most of our chances.”

The Diamonds kept hold of all three points at the weekend, Dale Carrick hammering home a rebound after missing from the penalty spot.

“I still don’t think it’s a penalty to be honest,” said Young.

“Chris Higgins is just too strong for the guy and is on the ball himself.

“Ross Davidson picks up a booking for asking why the penalty was given and ends up getting sent off later on.”
