East Fife midfielder focused on top of the table clash

The Methil men were humbled 3-0 at the hands of Gus MacPherson’s Queen’s Park but the midfielder believes that a trip to Borough Briggs provides a perfect opportunity for the Fifers to right some wrongs.

“We just need to dust ourselves down,” said Slattery.

“We go up to Elgin with nine games to go and I think it’s going to go right down to the last game.

“It’s going to be close and I can’t see anybody running away with it purely because anybody can beat anyone.

“The score line was flattering (for Queen’s Park) but we need to focus on bouncing back against Elgin and produce the goods to get back to the top of the table.”

Slattery, though, had no explanation for why the Fifers struggled at the national stadium putting the performance down to a bad day at the office.

“The whole game we didn’t seem to get out of third gear,” added Slattery.

“It’s totally unlike us because we’re usually so dangerous but I was at Queen’s Park last season and I know what Gus MacPherson’s teams are like.

“After the run we’ve been on it’s inevitable that we’re all absolutely gutted for it to come to an end.

“Don’t get me wrong it’s been a great run and it’s probably one of the best anyone has had in the division but it’s a bitter one to take.

“Obviously at 1-0 we’ve got caught twice but we pushed on because it only takes a second to score a goal and these things happen in football.

“They had a game plan which they stuck too and we were just second best and there’s no getting away from that.”
