A long trip west awaits Darren Young’s men on December 26, with the Fifers still chasing their first point on their travels in the current campaign.

Games between East Fife and the Sons are rarely dull, and Denholm is hoping to return to the kingdom with all three points and build on Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Forfar. The 30-year-old said: “Dumbarton got beat on Saturday (4-0 away to Montrose) and are a hot and cold side.

“They can be great and they can be poor, but we just need to look after ourselves and put in a similar performance to the Forfar game in terms of how we passed the ball.

“If we can do that in Dumbarton, then we have a right good chance of winning and getting into the top end of the league rather than scrapping around at the bottom.

“It’s a tight league, with only three or four points separating third and fourth from ninth, so we need to put a run together.”

The winger, who netted East Fife’s second goal against Forfar, one of his old clubs, says his side need to hit a run of form to help them climb the division.

“Even before I was at the club, the team seemed to be able to get on a run of games,” said Denholm, with Forfar from 2012 to 2013 and 2014 to 2017.

“There would be one or two bad ones but then they’d win five or six in a row. We did it at the start of last season as well.

“Hopefully, we can create that momentum.

“We’ve been great at home, but we need to start doing that away now as well.”
