East Fife will take the game to old rivals Montrose

There has been little between East Fife and Montrose in recent times, and Bayview boss Darren Young expects the same this weekend.

Stewart Petrie’s Mo and the Fifers were virtually neck and neck, battling for the final play-off spot, when the season was brought to a premature end last term.

Fans were denied the chance to take in a mouthwatering meeting between the two, the fixture at Bayview scheduled to be played just days after the country was put into lockdown.

But old rivalries will be renewed in Fife on Saturday.

Almosy typically, both East Fife and Montrose will head into it on the back of identical opening day fixture results.

East Fife went down 3-1 at Cove while Mo were beaten by the same margin against Falkirk.

Young expects things to be tight again this weekend when the two meet.

He said: “It’ll be another hard game and by all accounts they were unlucky at the weekend.

“But it’s up to us to go and take the game to them.

“We’re the home team so we’re looking to go and win.

“We played them a few times last year so know what the expect.

“They’ll be looking to kick on from their 3-1 defeat and we’ll be looking to kick on from our 3-1 defeat.”

East Fife lost Ross Dunlop at half-time on Saturday and it was feared he’s suffered a reoccurrence of the wrist injury which kept him out for part of last season.

But Young said it’s not as bad as first thought and he may line up against Montrose.

Aaron Dunsmore and Danny Denholm, who were both sent off at Cove, will miss out through suspension but Ross Davidson is available for selection again.
